I just returned from an unforgettable two-week stay in New York, and the experience has left a lasting mark on me. The city carries an energy unlike anywhere else I have been. Its streets move at a relentless pace, yet beneath the rush there is an undeniable rhythm that gives life to every corner. Skyscrapers tower with ambition, while quiet moments unfold in small cafés, subway rides, and unexpected encounters.
What struck me most was the coexistence of contrasts: chaos and harmony, noise and silence, the overwhelming scale of the city alongside the intimacy of personal moments. This balance revealed to me how complexity can be beautiful when viewed as a whole.
The experience did more than simply impress me. It inspired me to translate those impressions into my work. New York reminded me that design, like the city itself, can hold tension and movement while still offering clarity and resonance. This journey has become a new source of energy, urging me to capture that rhythm and spirit within my creative practice.
.
#1 - NYC in my head
This first piece of my NYC series reflects the soul of the city. New York is defined by the strict geometry of its street grid, yet within that order pulses a vibrant, chaotic energy. Every corner feels alive with movement, where people from diverse backgrounds cross paths and create a rhythm unique to the city.
The work goes beyond architecture or structure. It is about the life, color, and atmosphere that animate those spaces. Through motion, layering, and contrast, I sought to capture the tension between order and chaos, translating New York’s dynamic character into a visual form that embodies both its complexity and vitality.
#2 - Hidden Gem
This is the second piece of my NYC series, inspired by the spherocobaltite at the American Museum of Natural History. When I first encountered the gem, I was completely overwhelmed by its beauty. Its vivid presence carried something indescribable that struck me deeply and left a lasting impression. It was a moment of awe that felt both fleeting and unforgettable.
In this work, I sought to capture that experience, the sense of wonder and stillness that can emerge from a single encounter with something extraordinary. The piece is less about replicating the gem itself and more about translating the emotional resonance it evoked, preserving the memory of that moment and reflecting how inspiration can be born from even the briefest impressions.
#3 - Composition
This is the final piece of my NYC series, created as an attempt to distill the essence of the city into a single work. I reflected on which iconic elements best represent New York and explored ways to arrange them so they could speak to its vibrant energy and unmistakable character. Each object was chosen and composed not only for its symbolism but also for the rhythm and atmosphere it evokes.
More than a depiction of landmarks, this work represents my personal connection to the city and the inspiration I carried back with me. It is shaped by the thoughts and emotions that arose during my time there, a translation of lived experience into visual form. This piece stands as both a conclusion to the series and a lasting reminder of what New York gave me: energy, wonder, and the drive to create.
